Winter Wedding at Red Feather Lakes in the Colorado Mountains | Lindsey + Ty
Lindsey and Ty’s wedding at Red Feather Lakes was a literal dream! I mean, is there anything more magical than a snowy winter wedding in the Colorado mountains? This hidden gem tucked away in the Northern Colorado mountains near Fort Collins was the perfect setting for their special day.
Lindsey and Ty were dead set on making their wedding their day, and wanted to stand out and be unique. They planned to have a small and intimate wedding of forty people. Lindsey knew she wanted a winter wedding in the middle of the Colorado Rocky Mountains. We looked at countless venues from Telluride to Jackson Hole, Wyoming but I know nothing was making her light up like it should when you find that perfect wedding venue.
Finally after chatting over coffee we learned that Lindsey's parents had a big piece of property in Red Feather Lakes, and it was actually where the couple had their first date, shared their first "I Love Yous", and many more special moments. The next day we climbed into the rangers and had the couple take us to this magical spot. It was the perfect spot for a ceremony and actually backed up to a 750 acre piece of property that was a working girl scout ranch. We decided to have the ceremony at their special spot which was known as Lost Lake and the reception would follow at the event hall on the Girl Scout Ranch.
The ceremony location was probably one of the most magical places we have ever seen, the meaning behind it was just a bonus. Nestled up to Lost Lake In Red Feather Lakes, Colorado we placed the bride and groom at the edge of the frozen lakes surrounded by large dried floral arrangements flowing through pine stumps. Using stumps and bench seating for the guest really brought in that true Colorado mountain wedding feel. The ceremony location was about 3 miles from the reception, we decided on horse drawn carriages to transport all guests, wedding party, and our bride and groom to and from the ceremony and reception. The seclusion we felt in the middle of the Rocky Mountains, surrounded by tall cliff walls and a frozen lake was truly magical. It felt as if nothing else mattered that day but Ty, Lindsey, and their family. It was truly one of the most magical weddings we have ever planned to date.
While the ceremony location was perfect for your quintessential Colorado elopement, the reception hall was a blank slate and needed some love. We decided to break up the large empty hall and bring in a ton of pipe and drape for that romantic cozy feel. We added in our rustic farm tables adorned with tons of candles, gold silverware, and ample pine greenery garlands. The sweetheart table we placed in front of the giant fireplace that was covered with greenery and large floral arrangements so that our couple was the center of attention. The couple also had decided that they would like to do a smaller cake for cutting and do a big dessert spread that did not last far into the night, nor did the wedding cake for that matter. This space truly was transformed, you would not believe the before and after. We know that when our clients are not going for the traditional mountain wedding venues in Colorado, that is time to get creative. Sometimes just having coffee with our clients and learning more about them is all the insight we need to find their dream wedding venue.
